Actuarial Internship - Summer 2022

What you can expect when you join SFG:
Our Internship program is designed to give students experience with projects and performing tasks within their hired work area. You will be exposed to other areas within the organization by participating in development, culture and volunteer events. This paid internship is 10+ weeks in length with the possibility of extending hours into the school year.

Our internship program holds an 80/10/10 approach, meaning that 80% of your work time will involve performing tasks or working on projects within your hired work area. Another 10% of the time, you will be exposed to learning in other areas within your assigned division to get more corporate experience. Then, the final 10% will be spent in shared experiences across the organization, where you will get to really learn about our culture and work environment.

What we are looking for in an Actuarial Intern: 
Provide quantitative support for new and existing products and policies, supporting corporate profitability objectives and other business initiatives.
  • Assist with analyses of new products and inforce business, including rate setting, data analysis, profitability projections, research, and summarizing results.
  • Build spreadsheet tools to analyze product and policy data.
  • Modify and run actuarial models as needed, reviewing appropriateness of results.
  • Provide technical assistance with regard to questions, calculation, or problems encountered in other departments.
  • Assist in the creation of reports and written communications with internal key stakeholders, as needed.
  • Analyze, summarize and present on usage of distributed processing systems.

Qualifications:
  • Individuals pursing their bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Finance or
  • Successful completion of at least 1 Society of Actuaries (SOA) exam
  • A basic understanding of insurance
  • High level of mathematical ability, including a good working knowledge of calculus, linear algebra, probability and statistics and numerical analysis
  • Strong Computer skills, including experience with spreadsheets. Experience with SQL or SAS a plus
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
